PANYNJ makes Bilich permanent chief security officer

The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey (PANYNJ) has named Acting Chief Security Officer John Bilich as its permanent chief security officer.

Bilich, a former NYPD Deputy Commissioner of Operations and chief investigator in the Manhattan and Brooklyn District Attorney's Offices, was named acting chief security officer in December 2016. Prior to his service in the Brooklyn and Manhattan District Attorney's Offices, Bilich served 24 years with the New York City Police Department, rising to the rank of deputy commissioner of operations.

Sound Transit stumps for Lynnwood funding with congressional tour

U.S. Rep. Pramila Jayapal (D-WA-7) joined Sound Transit CEO Peter Rogoff Sept. 19 for a tour of the Northgate light-rail project construction to emphasize the importance of federal funding to the project's success.

The 8.5-mile Lynnwood Link Extension would build four new light-rail stations from Northgate to Lynnwood and would connect riders between south Snohomish County and the University of Washington, downtown Seattle, the Eastside and the airport.

Protran Technology, part of the Harsco Rail division, has received orders to install enhanced safety systems to regional transit districts serving Washington, D.C. and Sacramento, Calif.

The company says these latest orders from the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority and the Sacramento Regional Transit District join a growing list of Protran customers nationwide – including some 25 metropolitan transit networks – who have selected Protran safety equipment for their track workers, as well as vehicle fleets.

AREMA hosts most diverse Meet the Next Generation panel

The American Railway Engineering and Maintenance-of-Way Association (AREMA) hosted the most diverse Meet the Next Generation Event panel at Railway Interchange. Five panelists from five different disciplines joined to answer questions from students interested to enter the industry.

The panel consisted of Justin Anderson, project development engineer at GeoStabilization International, Kyle Baker, director of bridge design and planning at Genesee & Wyoming Railroad Services, Inc., William Mikula, mechanical project engineer at Northern Indiana Commuter Transportation District, Blanca M. Obregón, rail team leader at TranSystems and Jonathan Warlof, signal supervisor at BNSF Railway. Years of experience on the panel ranged from two to 15 years.
