Fairfax shows interest in joining partnership to purchase HBR

A Toronto-based holding company has expressed interest in a partnership that could purchase the beleaguered Hudson Bay Rail line, the Port of Churchill and other associated assets.

Natural Resources Canada says Fairfax Financial Holdings Inc. is exploring a partnership with Missinippi Rail and One North to buy the northern Manitoba rail and port infrastructure.

Study quantifies the $2.6B economic impact of Foothill Gold Line project

The Foothill Gold Line Construction Authority has released a report explaining the economic benefits expected to come to the region from the upcoming construction and operation of the 12.3-mile Foothill Gold Line light-rail extension.

Beacon Economics, an economic research and forecasting firm based in Los Angeles, produced the report, entitled, "Economic Impact Study of the Foothill Gold Line Glendora to Montclair Segment." The segment is the final of a three-phase project to construct the Gold Line between Los Angeles and Montclair.

Russ Gehl appointed to NRC Board

The National Railroad Construction & Maintenance Association (NRC) has appointed Russ Gehl, vice president of Sales and Marketing (Maintenance-of-Way), at Holland LP to its Board of Directors.

Gehl has worked in the railroad industry for 15 years in the mechanical, signal and engineering divisions of several supplier companies and has spent the past six years in multiple positions with Holland, initially joining the company as the business development manager and advancing to his current position. Gehl manages a team of 13 that focus on selling contract flash-butt welding, geometry testing, turnkey and thermite welding services for railroad maintenance and track construction.
