Parsons secures Metrolinx ETCCS tech services contract

Parsons has begun providing technical advisory services for Metrolinx's Enhanced Train Control and Conventional Signaling (ETCCS) project, part of the Canadian agency's 10-year GO Transit regional/commuter rail expansion program consisting of C$13.5 billion in capital projects and $7 billion in state-of-good-repair works.

The GO Transit network spans more than 2,500 square miles in southern Ontario and carries more than 200,000 passengers each day through more than 40 municipalities.

Cooksville, Rutherford GO Station improvements advancing

Ontario is building a new station building, parking structure and bus loop at the Cooksville GO Station. The project is set for completion in 2020.

The province is also moving ahead with improvements to its Rutherford GO Station that are set to facilitate additional transit options for commuters in the York region.

RSI’s Simpson to retire; O’Malley named president

The Railway Supply Institute (RSI) said Mike O'Malley will become president of the association on Feb. 1, 2018, when current president, Tom Simpson, is scheduled to retire.

Simpson joined RSI (formerly known as the Railway Progress Institute) in 1988 following a position with the Federal Railroad Administration between 1983-1988. He was named president of RSI in 2010.

The San Diego Association of Governments (SANDAG) and the North County Transit District (NCTD) have expanded the Oceanside Transit Center (OTC) to increase train capacity.

The expansion boosts the number of trains that can board passengers simultaneously and will enable freight trains to pass through the station while passengers are boarding, SANDAG said. Construction on the project began in June of 2016.

Rep. Estes tours Budde Enterprises, discusses rail and policy issues

On Nov. 17, Rep. Ron Estes (R-KS-4) joined representatives from Budde Enterprises Inc. and the Kansas and Oklahoma Railroad for a tour at Budde's Newton, Kan., facility.

Budde Enterprises began operating out of Newton in 1965, when owner Bill Budde bought a local farm. Budde has since grown to be a leading supply, repair and custom fabrication shop serving the transportation and agricultural industries.
