Port of Prince Rupert wraps up container terminal expansion

The Port of Prince Rupert in British Columbia, Canada, celebrated the completion of the two-year "Phase 2 North" expansion of DP World's Fairview Container Terminal with a ribbon cutting ceremony.

The expansion project grows the terminal's annual throughput capacity from 850,000 to 1.35 million twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) and allow the port to accommodate the largest container vessels in the world.

KCS, Bulkmatic enter JV to expand the exportation of liquid fuels from U.S. to Mexico

Kansas City Southern (KCS) is entering a 50/50 joint venture investment with Bulkmatic Transport Company, which aims to facilitate and expand the exportation of liquid fuels from the United States to Mexico.

The project will include the construction of a unit train liquid fuels terminal located in Salinas Victoria near Monterrey, Nuevo Leon, Mexico. Kansas City Southern de Mexico, S.A. de C.V. (KCSM) will serve the facility.

Service for the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA) Newburyport/Rockport commuter rail line service is expected to resume on Sept. 2, five weeks ahead of schedule.

The MBTA made the announcement last week along with Keolis Commuter Services (KCS). The train route, which services the Northshore, was temporarily shut down on weekends to install positive train control (PTC). MBTA and KCS utilized the weekend shutdowns to perform maintenance, safety and infrastructure repair projects, including new track and grade crossings.

Hawaii legislature to take up rail project funding in special session

State lawmakers will take up the issue of funding the Honolulu rail project this week in a special session.

A proposed bill would extend the general excise tax (GET) surcharge and increase the hotel room tax in order to provide the city and county of Honolulu with enough funding to complete the $8.2-billion project. The bill would also require a state run audit of the rail project, as well as annual financial reviews.
