LIRR lines up contractor for elevators at Murray Hill Station

MTA Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) on Wednesday announced it awarded an $8.6 million contract to LoDuca Associates Inc. to build two new elevators at the Murray Hill Station in Queens, New York.

The hydraulic elevators will comply with Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) requirements, LIRR officials said in a press release.

The project includes the installation of new security cameras, lighting and signage. Work is slated to begin in March.

LIRR has been working to bring accessibility to more stations throughout Queens. In 2013, the Queens Village Station received ADA-compliant elevators.

The railroad also is installing elevators at the heavily used Flushing-Main Street Station.
