Port of Vancouver USA close to wrapping up decade-long rail program

The Port of Vancouver USA has begun work on the final two projects in its decade-long initiative bolster growth by investing in freight rail infrastructure.

The $250-million West Vancouver Freight Access (WVFA) project consists of 21 individual projects to improve freight rail movement through the port and along BNSF and Union Pacific mainlines connecting the Pacific Northwest to major rail hubs in Chicago and Houston and from Canada to Mexico.

ConnDOT to begin interlocking, dockyard projects in October

The Connecticut Department of Transportation (ConnDOT) will begin two interlocking and dockyard projects in October rather than July to accommodate planned activities associated with the projects.

The CP243 Interlocking Project and the Danbury Branch Dockyard are independent of the planned Walk Railroad Bridge replacement, but must be completed in advance of the bridge work. The interlocking project will improve the operations on the New Haven Line during construction of the new bridge while the dockyard project will improve dependability of operations and minimize impacts to commuter rail services during bridge construction.

LACMTA TBM for Regional Connector Project breaks through

Four months after its launch in Little Tokyo, Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (LACMTA) Regional Connector Transit Project tunnel boring machine (TBM) broke through the underground wall of the Grand Avenue Arts/Bunker Hill station.

The TBM, named Angeli, was lowered into the ground near the Little Tokyo/Arts District Station at 1st and Central last winter and began digging the twin tunnels in early February. In late April, the TBM completed digging through the Historic Broadway Station at 2nd and Broadway on its way to 2nd Place and Hope.
