Twelve North Carolina freight projects have received nearly $6 million in funding through the Short Line Infrastructure Assistance Program (SIAP), the North Carolina Department of Transportation has announced.
SIAP is a component of the Freight Rail and Rail Crossing Safety Improvement Program that was established in 2013 by the General Assembly. The North Carolina Railroad Company also contributed and each approved project was funded based on the railroad's needs and the impact of the proposed improvement.
The awarded projects include the following:
