The Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority (VTA) has chosen Siemens to provide electrification technology to power the agency's Guadalupe Corridor light-rail line.

The technology, which includes monitoring and diagnostic features to streamline maintenance work, will replace the VTA's 27-year-old systems, Siemens officials said in a press release.

As part of the project, Siemens will provide new traction power substations, modern protection communication devices, and advanced circuit breakers and controllers.

Those systems are designed to detect faults sooner and minimize stress on the line, resulting in a longer vehicle lifecycle and more reliable ride, Siemens officials said.

Siemens is responsible for the full delivery of the project, from design and production to final commissioning. This marks the company's first time as the primary contractor for VTA.
