President Donald Trump last week announced he would nominate Amtrak Board Director Derek Kan to serve as undersecretary of the U.S. Department of Transportation.
Kan has served on Amtrak's board since 2015. He is general manager of Lyft in Southern California, according to a press release issued by the White House.
Previously, he was as director of strategy at a Silicon Valley startup and has been a management consultant at Bain & Co. Earlier in his career, he was a policy adviser to Senate Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) and chief economist for the Senate Republican Policy Committee.
Prior to becoming a Hill staff member, Kan served as a presidential management fellow at the White House Office of Management and Budget.
